RETAIL SERVICES
ITE SKILLS CERTIFICATE (ISC) IN RETAIL SERVICES
This course provides students with the skills and technical knowledge to prepare merchandise for display on the shop floor, conduct stock-take, sell merchandise, provide customer service and handle point-of-sale operations.

CORE MODULES FOR RETAIL SERVICES
Customer Service
On completion of this module, students should be able to provide basic customer service involving the use of communication skills over the telephone and through face-to-face contact, and to carry out service recovery where appropriate.

Merchandise Display
On completion of this module, students should be able to prepare visual displays and arrange merchandise assortments within a mock-up shop to improve shop layout and presentation. They will also be involved in the basic design of advertisements.

Basic Retail Operations
On completion of this module, students should be able to use the appropriate inventory software to receive and return merchandise. Students should also be able to conduct stock-take, sell merchandise, handle objections, close a sale, handle store security and issues relating to workplace safety and health.

Point-of-Sale Operations
On completion of this module, students should be able to set up a check-out counter, handle payment, bag goods and perform end-of-day closing.

Industry Experiential Programme (IEP)
As partial fulfilment of the ITE Skills Certificate (ISC) assessment, students embark on an Industry Experiential Programming (IEP), a 10-week industry attachment, in Year 4. Student's performance at IEP is graded by their respective industry supervisors, based on the IEP Skills List.
The main objective of the IEP is to provide retail students with authentic learning opportunities to experience and perform tasks in real work environment, where they can discover their passion, learn about the retail settings and how the workplace deals with challenges while developing their social, communication and technical skills.
On completion of the Retail IEP module, students should be able to integrate and apply the knowledge and skills learnt in their course, as well as to develop greater awareness of the work environment and work ethics. They should also be able to acquire new learning and further deepen their workplace competencies.

Taster Programme for Retail Services
The retail taster programme aims to provide students with an important insight into the basic skills and knowledge related to customer service, merchandise display, basic retail operations and point-of-sale operations. It also helps students to make an informed decision when selecting the course towards the end of Year 2.
PROGRESSION & CAREER OPPORTUNITIES FOR RETAIL SERVICES
Upon successful completion of the ITE Skills Certificate (ISC) in Retail Services course, students with a minimum GPA score of 2.5 will be eligible to apply for the following ITE Nitec courses.
