HOSPITALITY SERVICES

ITE SKILLS CERTIFICATE (ISC) IN HOSPITALITY SERVICES

This course aims to provide students with the skills and knowledge necessary to perform a wide range of tasks in the Hospitality setting, including preparing basic Western cuisine, providing food and beverage service, and carrying out housekeeping duties, to ensure excellence in service delivery and guest satisfaction.

CORE MODULES

There are 5 core modules in the ITE Skills Certificate (ISC) in Hospitality Services course. The 5 core modules are:

Food Preparation
Food & Beverage Service
Housekeeping Service
Guest Service Excellence
Industry Experiential Programme (IEP)

CORE MODULES FOR HOSPITALITY SERVICES

Food Preparation

On completion of this module, students should be able to prepare and cook a specified range of food dishes using various cooking methods.

Food & Beverage Service

On completion of this module, students should be able to perform pre-service activities, lay the dining table, take and serve food and beverage orders, clear finished courses and table at the end of service in a restaurant.

Housekeeping Services

On completion of this module, students should be able to clean the guest rooms of an accommodation establishment and perform other housekeeping duties as required.

Guest Service Excellence

On completion of this module, students should be able to provide basic guest service involving the use of communication skills over the telephone and through face-to-face contact, and to carry out service recovery where appropriate.

INDUSTRY EXPERIENTIAL PROGRAMME

This 10-week Industry Experiential Programme (IEP) is designed in alignment with the Hospitality Core Principles of E3 [ENGAGED to learn, ENRICHED with knowledge, and EMPOWERED to serve]. During IEP, every student is provided with numerous opportunities to apply the knowledge and skills gained in their hospitality lessons. Additionally, students will develop new skills in managing relationships as they undertake various tasks assigned during their IEP.

The IEP serves as a platform that empowers students to practice and embody the SHINE values of NorthLight School. It also offers opportunities for them to enhance their social, communication, and technical skills, preparing them for the real working world upon graduation.

This module is a mandatory requirement for all final-year students before their graduation. Assessment is conducted by industry supervisors, who evaluate students based on their performance.

The IEP module provides:

developmental assessment of students, focusing on their professional work habits and skills
enhanced prospects for full-time employment upon graduation
a means to test career goals and gain work experience before graduation
gradual and consistent development to foster a deeper understanding of interpersonal and intrapersonal skills in a workplace

Electives for ISC in Hospitality Services

Students must complete three (3) electives at the end of the course

Baking
Asian Cuisine
Pre-Employment Skills

Taster Programme for ISC in Hospitality Services

The Hospitality Services taster program is designed to offer students valuable insights into fundamental skills and knowledge pertinent to the hospitality industry. In this program, students gain hands-on experience in preparing simple western dishes and learn about the crucial aspects of safety and hygiene when working in a kitchen. Taster program equips students with the information they need to make informed decisions when choosing their course of study as they approach the end of Year 2.

Progression & Career Opportunities for ISC in Hospitality Services

Upon successful completion of the ITE Skills Certificate (ISC) in Hospitality Services, students with a minimum GPA score of 2.5 will be eligible to apply for the following ITE courses (Information accurate as of the January 2026 ISC Progression Intake):

Upon successful completion of the course of study, ISC in Hospitality Services graduates may apply for entry-level jobs in the hospitality sector as:
